Tell the Florida Department of Education: Protect parental choice.

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) is considering changes to Rule 6A-1.0957, Internet Safety Policy, as artificial intelligence becomes more common in Florida classrooms.

The proposed rule includes an important parental OPT-IN requirement for student use of AI instructional tools.

Under the proposal, schools would be required to:
• Notify parents before an AI instructional tool is used with their child
• Obtain parental permission through an OPT-IN process
• Provide a non-AI alternative if a parent chooses not to participate
• Allow parents to place limits on their child’s AI use
• Give parents access to their child’s AI interaction records
• Prohibit AI providers from selling, monetizing, profiling, or commercially exploiting student data

Parents should have the final say before their child directly uses AI at school.

The Florida State Board of Education is scheduled to meet on September 16, 2026, so now is the time to make your voice heard.
