Lake County Legislative Delegation Meeting Recap

Last week was the Lake County Legislative Delegation Meeting.  Some highlights are below.  Here is a recording of the meeting that was posted: Aug 27, 2025 Lake County Legislative Delegation

  1. SB-180 was a hot topic:
    1. Representative Gentry, district 27 will be pushing a correction to the bill SB-180 (7:38 in the recording)
    2. Several attendees spoke to repeal this bill:
      1. Leslie Campione LCBCC
      2. Mayor James Homich, City of Mt Dora (also against Live Local Act)
      3. Zach Decker, City of Groveland P&Z
      4. Carreno, City of Eustis
      5. Paul Owens, 1000 Friends of Florida
      6. Two citizens that were not on the agenda spoke against SB-180
  1. Senator Truenow is planning a resolution to be on 2026 ballot for an exemption for agricultural producers on tangible personal property. Note: this could impact some city budgets. (10:58 in the recording)
  2. Local Bills: (19:23 in the recording))
    1. Representative Yarkosky – Eliminate the North Lake Hospital Tax by putting this on the ballot. Truenow stated there will be a proposal on how the indigent community and North Lake will be served without this tax.
    2. Representative Cobb – Introducing a bill for compensation for health care workers who provide care to Lake County inmates.
    3. Representative Gentry – Introducing a bill for “single member district” in the county.

The entire delegation said they are always available to hear from their constituents.  Use your voice to make certain you are heard.
